FontShop 96 #9

Together with Lies Defossez and Marnix Vanden Bulcke, I made a magazine for FontShop in 2005. From start until the end, from the editorial part until the graphic design part. Trying to setup a magazine, we asked ourselves some questions: What is a magazine? What is a font and how to present it? This research resulted in a few basic principles.

The main idea was to apply a different font on every page. According to us, the whole magazine should be a typespecimen. The magazine starts with an ultra light font and ends with the blackest of all. This creates a gradient. We applied this gradient also on the pictures shown. The pictures were randomly chosen from the database of graphicobsession and put into a big gradient. We consistently followed our principles throughout the whole magazine and for every aspect of it.
